Dealing With Background Apps Flagged During Your Test
If your report flagged other processes active during this test, something else on your PC was using significant CPU or bandwidth while you were racing — competing for the same resources your game needs for smooth, consistent performance. This is genuinely one of the most common causes of stutter that gets mistaken for a network or ISP problem, since it can produce very similar-looking symptoms (jitter, dropped updates, inconsistent frame pacing).
The quick fix
Close or pause whatever was flagged before your next session. Common culprits:
- Cloud sync/backup — OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox syncing a large folder
- Downloads/updates — Windows Update, Steam or Epic downloading/updating a game in the background
- Streaming/recording — OBS, Discord screen share, or a browser tab playing video
- Browser tabs generally — especially ones actively streaming video or audio, or running heavy web apps
Confirming it was actually the cause
Close the flagged app(s), then run another LagInspector diagnostic under the same conditions (same track, similar time of day). If your Network score and jitter numbers noticeably improve, that confirms it — the flagged app really was the issue, not your connection.
If it keeps happening with different apps each time
Consider a more permanent fix: pause automatic updates/syncing during your usual racing hours, rather than remembering to manually close things every session. Most cloud-sync tools and Steam/Epic both have a "pause" or scheduling option in their own settings.
A note on sim racing peripheral software
LagInspector already knows not to flag your actual game process, or common sim racing tools like SimHub, CrewChief, or similar telemetry/dashboard software — those are expected to use real bandwidth and CPU, and won't show up here as something to close.
